Just want to make a few observations based on my past experience of agriculture and industry and my present connections to both. MNREGA has reduced availability of seasonal rural labour to Industry. Wages of daily labourers in Industry in a state have increased in proportion to the extent of implementation of MNREGA in the state. I may dare say that unavailability has harmed Industry more than wages and at the same time has not really helped agriculture. I may add that this process has slowed down considerably during last more than a year which seems to contradict government figures of increased economic activity.

As regards 15 families owning more than 600 million people it is a sad fact and is the same worldwide but sadly no action seems forthcoming anywhere. In countries like India where vast multitudes exist below subsistence level the situation is worse but no solution appears on the horizon. Seems policitians are dependent on the 15 families for election and are least bothered with the rest of the population as long as sufficient people can be swayed by rhetoric and sops to vote them back to power. And even if they lose, the next set would be equally indebted.

The only silver lining seems to be the appearance of a few honest politicians who have been marginally successful in fighting elections without approaching the big 15. But with the entire establishment ranged against them success seems elusive in the long term. Let us keep our fingers crossed.Sunilnoreply@blogger.com
